This year is the best opportunity in a long time to significantly improve our capacity to get homeless people into housing, and any organization can help by signing on to this nationwide letter of support. Yes, it's the same letter we've been talking about for the last few weeks. If you haven't signed you have until Wednesday and that's it!
There is a genuine opportunity this year, starting right now, to get substantial new money from Congress for housing people who are homeless. Here's how.
Please share this letter asking Appropriations leadership to fund McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance at least at $2.487 billion and protect USICH with your congressional offices!
Advocates from across the country will meet with Members of Congress on Capitol Hill Day, July 28, 2016, and urge them to make ending homelessness a federal priority.
The letter, available for download above, led by Senators Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), is circulating in the Senate in support of $2.664 billion for HUD's McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants, as well as $20.854 billion for HUD's Section 8 Tenant-Based Rental Assistance program, in fiscal year (FY) 2017. The letter was sent to the leaders of the HUD Appropriations Subcommittee.
