Uplift BEAUTIFUL SOULS Escaping Homelessness

Living without adequate shelter is a dehumanizing, life-threatening position nobody deserves to experience. For 14 months before I enrolled at Boston College to complete my undergraduate education, I experienced this personally, being legally declared homeless. While attending BC relieved this stress from my shoulders for a few years, I can never forget the soul-crushing experience of having nowhere to turn that homelessness inevitably entails. Most importantly, my memory of this traumatic time ensures I will never stop fighting beside those who must persevere without shelter. From my experience, I know that for them to soar to their fullest potential, they need an opportunity to live in a stable environment, allowing them to begin recovering from the deep psychological hole homelessness creates. With ending American homelessness being my professional and personal mission, now that I have graduated from BC, I am ecstatic to attend the University of Georgia Law School on a full scholarship this August. I firmly believe the elite legal background I will soon attain will unveil the systemic flaws that enable homelessness, providing me the final skill I need to make my most profound practical impact on this tragic, potential-wasting epidemic. I will arrive in Athens, GA, on foot, walking from my hometown in Virginia to UGA to spread awareness about the issue and fundraise to benefit the National Alliance to End Homelessness. Those who are homeless have incredible skills, work ethics, and hearts the world could desperately use. Still, they need essential resources to have a realistic chance at success in displaying their abilities. While you have accomplished extraordinary feats in your life, please never forget that every opportunity you ever seized was granted to you by someone else.
