Fully Funding Federal Homelessness Programs
HUD’s Homeless Assistance Grants program is the backbone of the federal government’s response to homelessness. It supports a nationwide network of state, local, charitable, and faith-based homeless assistance providers — including those who serve youth and survivors of domestic violence — who make sure that people who become homeless will be identified, kept safe, and quickly returned to housing. These grants save lives, but they aren’t funded to serve the growing number of people who need help.

Providing Rental Assistance for Tenants
HUD’s Tenant-Based Rental Assistance program provides crucial housing support so that households with low incomes can maintain decent, safe, and affordable housing in the private market. This program includes Housing Choice Vouchers, veteran housing programs, and other tenant-based vouchers. Vouchers provided through this account have a proven track record of reducing homelessness and housing poverty. But due to rising rents, the program requires additional funding each year just to maintain the number of households served.
