Coordinated entry is a mechanism to shift homeless systems’ response methods from project-centric to person-centric, and based on community-level standards for referrals and program entry. Coordinated entry also ensures that scarce homelessness resources are triaged based on community-determined needs and priorities, rather than project-determined ones.
The National Alliance to End Homeless has developed a simple Coordinated Entry flowchart. It provides considerations that Continuums of Care should make to help ensure coordinated entry implementation is equitable. The flowchart and its accompanying presentation do not cover every possible way that biases could happen during coordinated entry; they are meant to serve as a tool to conceptualize the flow of coordinated entry processes and where disparities might occur.
