The National Alliance to End Homelessness is partnering with OrgCode to offer a special learning opportunity – How to Be an Awesome Shelter – a learning clinic that will provide 1.5 days of intensive instruction and interaction. This Learning Clinic is a deep-dive into:

  • Ensuring your shelter is housing-focused;
  • Connecting your shelter to the broader of system of care and coordinated entry;
  • Implementing diversion and prevention that works;
  • Moving from charitable approaches of shelter delivery to professional approaches that focus on the use of data, program improvement, and core competencies of staff;
  • Practicing trauma-informed shelter and practicing harm reduction within shelter;
  • Establishing appropriate expectations rather that enforcing social control;
  • Needs of subpopulations within shelter – and special sheltering for subpopulations;
  • Ensuring you have solid policies and procedures to guide your shelter operation;
  • How shelters help end homelessness.
