How Federal Funding Sparks Innovation on Unsheltered Homelessness

In 2023, thirty-two communities across the country won significant funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to respond to unsheltered homelessness.

These communities represent diverse settings facing different challenges. Due to the flexible nature of how this funding can be used, communities could select projects that would fill unique gaps in their system and shore up every step of the housing process.

As communities across the country grapple with how to respond to unsheltered homelessness, policymakers and practitioners stand to learn a lot from this effort. The Alliance is partnering with awarded communities to uplift these lessons.
