March 23 - 24, 2017The National Alliance to End Homelessness is partnering with OrgCode to offer a special learning opportunity – How to Be an Awesome Shelter – a learning clinic that will provide 1.5 days of intensive instruction and interaction. This Learning Clinic is a deep-dive into:
- Ensuring your shelter is housing-focused;
- Connecting your shelter to the broader of system of care and coordinated entry;
- Implementing diversion and prevention that works;
- Moving from charitable approaches of shelter delivery to professional approaches that focus on the use of data, program improvement, and core competencies of staff;
- Practicing trauma-informed shelter and practicing harm reduction within shelter;
- Establishing appropriate expectations rather that enforcing social control;
- Needs of subpopulations within shelter – and special sheltering for subpopulations;
- Ensuring you have solid policies and procedures to guide your shelter operation;
- How shelters help end homelessness.
