The Alliance’s Statement on Proposed Changes to HUD’s Equal Access Rule

The National Alliance to End Homelessness is firmly opposed to the Trump Administration’s proposed changes to the Equal Access Rule.

In the face of rising homelessness rates in communities all over the country, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) should target its efforts to help the nation’s most at-risk people, instead of targeting them for exclusion. Transgender people experiencing homelessness represent a particularly vulnerable population, with recent research indicating that more than half (56 percent) are unsheltered.

The Alliance calls on HUD to immediately abandon this proposed change, and re-commit itself to its critically important mission
