National Alliance to End Homelessness Calls on State and Local Leaders to Distribute Emergency Rental Assistance Funds Immediately

2 min

August 27, 2021, Washington, D.C. – Following the Supreme Court’s ruling that will end the federal eviction moratorium, the National Alliance to End Homelessness today urged state and local leaders to do everything in their power to immediately distribute emergency rental assistance to those in their communities at risk of losing their housing.

“Given rising levels of homelessness and the new and continuing surge in COVID cases, it is essential that families and individuals who have homes can remain in them,” said Nan Roman, President and CEO of the National Alliance to End Homelessness. “Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) is the only lifeline. We beg state and local leaders as well as the federal government to make sure every household at risk and every landlord knows how to access ERA resources, and that the process of accessing them is streamlined. There is no time for delay.”

Those at risk of eviction – as well as service providers and landlords – are urged to consult the U.S. Department of the Treasury ERA Web page to identify local rental assistance resources, as well as local legal aid offices, as soon as possible.
