Each year, Congress passes a budget, allocating funds to federal programs, including housing and homelessness programs. We are urging Congress to provide $2.487 billion for the Homeless Assistance Grants program within the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in FY 2017.
This grant program is the federal government’s primary response to homelessness and funds proven solutions. The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants appropriations account funds two programs:
- The competitive Continuum of Care (CoC) program
- The Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) formula grant program.
- The CoC program funds proven interventions like permanent supportive housing for chronically homeless people and rapid rehousing. The ESG block grant funds emergency shelter, homelessness prevention, and rapid re-housing.
We want Congress to provide $2.487 billion for the Homeless Assistance Grants program within HUD in FY 2017. Help us make this happen by calling your representative.
